ECHA released five potential SVHCS for public comment

On 3 March 2020, the European chemicals agency issued a notice on its website inviting the public to comment on five chemicals: 1-vinyl imidazole, 2-methylimidazole, butyl p-hydroxybenzoate, diacetylpyruvate, dibutyl tin and resorcinol.If no strong objection is raised during the review process, the five Substances will be identified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).Under the eu's REACH rule, interested parties have 45 days to submit comments by 17 April 2020.

The identification process for SVHC includes a 45-day public comment period.Once a substance is identified as SVHC, it is added to the list of candidates established by the eu REACH regulation, which imposes direct legal obligations on the supplier of the substance, for example:

1. Provide safety technical specifications;

2. Safe use and communication;

3. Reply to consumer's request within 45 days;

4. ECHA should be notified if the goods produced by each manufacturer or importer per year contain more than 1 ton of SVHC by weight and the content of SVHC is above 0.1% (w/w).
